How do i optimize pictures for quality web designing?

Choosing the images you want to use can be a tough job. There are so many images out there, and many of them look so cool. However, you can use only a select few, and they need to be perfectly designed to fit your Web page. Images play a big role in the presentation of your Web site. For example, take a look at this figure:

What do you see? I see a page that has some pretty bad design. Let’s talk about what they did wrong. First of all, notice that the background image isn’t stretched to fit my browser. The image is tiled, meaning that you see multiple copies of it laid across the screen. It doesn’t look very good.

Now, granted, I’m using a bigger resolution for this image than most monitors do. I use 1280×1024, and most monitors still use 800×600 or 1024×768. But still, there are a lot of people who use big resolutions.

This background image truly alienates anyone who visits the site, because it makes the page very unappealing. Also, notice the title bar, the one that says Brickhouse Cycles, and the logo to the left. The background of the images is white, but the background of the page isn’t. This creates a big conflict and makes the title stand out, in a bad way. As you can see, these images make a big difference in the quality of the page. There are a few things you can do to fix the problems.

First of all, don’t use this background image. The color is red and blue, and it conflicts with the actual page. You don’t want your visitors spending more time looking at the background than what’s on top of it. Second, make the background of the images transparent so they’ll work with a background of any color.

As you can see in the image, the text “Brickhouse Cycles” has a white background upon a different background image. If the background of the text is transparent, then the white color wouldn’t appear, and the text would appear to be right on top of the background.Transparency is easy to do, and it really makes a page look better.

There are some other things that this page could do better, so take a look at it and make a list of things you could improve. Doing lists like this will sharpen your design skills. Now that you know about some of the problems that can come from using images badly, let’s talk about what you should do to make them look good.
