Should You Sell on Google Base or on eBay?
While you’re filling out the Google Base form and uploading photos to list your item there, you might wonder if you’re really making your item visible to the widest possible audience. The Sell Your Item form on eBay’s site is similar; isn’t it a better choice to list on eBay?
For items where you aren’t sure of the value and you don’t know how much someone will be willing to pay, it’s a good idea to list on eBay. eBay’s auction formats let you throw your item open to the whims of its bidders, and you might find that they are willing to pay more than you ever imagined for your object.
If you want to sell something especially valuable, choose eBay. eBay, after all, is a more well established marketplace that has more than 40 million registered users.
Google Base has been around only a short time, and it has far fewer users.
On the other hand, eBay charges fees not only when you sell an item but simply when you put it up for sale. For everyday household goods that aren’t going to attract lots of bids, it might not be worth the trouble to sell on eBay.
Google Base, on the other hand, is free; you only pay if you receive a payment with Google Checkout, and even then the fee is relatively low: you pay 2.5 percent of the final sales price plus 25 cents per transaction.
If you’re looking to save money and want to sell items at a fixed price for up to 30 days (far longer than eBay’s maximum 10-day period for an auction), Google Base is a good choice.
