StarNet Interactive has been sold
Today I read a great announcement related to an awesome website.
IAC Consumer Applications & Portals, a division of IAC/InterActiveCorp that develops Zwinky, a teen-oriented virtual world, announced on Tuesday that it has acquired StarNet Interactive, the Israeli-based producer of GirlSense.com, a virtual community that offers teen girls a place to develop social networks around fashion (For example there are many interest pages: My Boutique, My Fashions, My Favorites, My ID Card, My Polls, My Account).
IAC said that GirlSense has primarily grown its user base through word of mouth and viral networking to 13 million registered users.
Other teen-oriented properties in IAC’s arsenal, with which GirlSense will likely be intertwined, include virtual world Zwinky and profile customization site Webfetti. GirlSense counts its registered
users at 13 million. Waw that’s amazig. Just imagine their database!
Part of our growth strategy includes acquisition of products and companies that complement our core competencies,
said John Park, president and CEO of IAC Consumer Applications & Portals, said in a statement Tuesday. Also, he said:
Adding Girlsense.com to our existing teen-targeted product portfolio provides us with broader teen mindshare and access to the coveted tween demographic.
Media brands and advertisers use GirlSense to reach an audience of about 13 million registered users, most of them girls 9 to 14 years old. Celebrity-themed boutiques on the site have included Walt Disney Co pop phenomenon Hannah Montana and the Jonas Brothers band.
